A Lesson on Dealing With a Break Up from True Blood

Jessica & HoytTrue Blood is one of my favorite television shows right now. I’ve been following the characters since the show started and they’re very interesting.

One of the episodes entitled Spellbound, was particularly interesting in that they showed two scenes that deals with the issue of break ups and how the couple was affected by each others reaction.

To give a little background on the characters and what’s going on with the relationship, Jessica is a young vampire who has a hunger for blood. She begins to feel as if she can’t be in a monogamous relationship with Hoyt because she is constantly sucking on the necks of strange men without Hoyt’s knowledge.

There is a little something else though, which Jessica doesn’t want Hoyt to know. The relationship is being threatened by Jessica’s attraction for Hoyt’s best friend since childhood, a young stud named Jason.

Hoyt is a human, known as a fangbanger, because he let’s a vampire suck on his neck and has sex with one. He learns to accept that vampires are different and has made some sacrifices in the name of the relationship.

Hoyt begins to feel like he’s losing Jessica who is beginning to lose interest also.

In the episode, they show two scenes that play out the break up. One is a dream that Jessica has and the other is the actual break up.

Jessica’s Dream

The clip contains coarse language and adult themes.

In the video, Jessica imagines going home to Hoyt, who immediately upon seeing her, starts to get on her nerves. Although Hoyt knows his relationship is falling apart he starts telling her how much he was worried about her and Jessica is getting more annoyed by the second.

Hoyt is giving Jessica attention that she doesn’t deserve and Jessica is well aware of this. In relationships when you give someone attention they do not deserve, you’re essentially giving them control of the relationship. So the direction of Hoyt and Jessica’s relationship here is going to be whatever Jessica wants.

When Jessica tells Hoyt that the relationship is really over, Hoyt breaks down and displays almost all seven of the things you shouldn’t do when going through a break up.

Jessica can hardly believe that he’s crying, saying things like he would die if he can’t have her, apologizing for things he said and promising to do things he doesn’t believe in (drinking her blood everyday). If she had even considered giving him a chance, she no longer wanted to and she gets so irritated she ends up… (well it was just a dream anyway).

What Really Happened…(The Actual Break Up)

The clip contains coarse language and adult themes.

In this scene, the real break up, Hoyt’s reaction is much different and when Jessica tells him they’re breaking up, he questions it. Although Hoyt behaves like an ass and starts an argument (not recommended if you’re in this situation), he doesn’t give up his power and Jessica respects him for it.

In this situation, Hoyt, the dumpee, agrees with the break up and with that he still has a chance. And although he managed to turn the tables on Jessica, he doesn’t go about it in the right way though.

The Lessons

The two main lessons you can learn from this True Blood episode about dealing with break ups (if you want to get your ex back) are summed up below.

  1. Don’t do these 7 things.
  2. Agree with the break up. But part ways amicably. This is actually recommended by T. W. Jackson, the author of The Magic of Making Up.

If you’re reading this then you’re either a True Blood fan like me or you either know that a break up in inevitably coming and you want to know how to deal with it. Hopefully, this article shines some light on how you could deal with your break up and possibly get your girlfriend or boyfriend back.
